Tokyo Auto Salon 2011

While the Tokyo Auto Salon (TAS) happened two weeks ago I've been busy gathering the wealth of coverage that has been appearing online since I'm one of those unforunate ones who didn't get to go.  Thankfully a ton of other people could and they brought back pictures and videos for the rest of us to droll over.  And what follows is a large collection of links to TAS that I've been able to gather and my opinion of what I got out of it.

TAS is much like SEMA in that it's a large collection of aftermarket vendors showcasing their new products and demo vehicles for the year.  Also like SEMA it's very much not a car show at least this year it wasn't.  Last Year's TAS was a bit more like a Car Show thanks to the crap economy but this year it was a huge turn around.

TAS this year had a large selection of Expensive Euro cars a massive amount of VIP cars and vans and the two stand out cars The Nissan GT-R R35 and the Honda CR-Z.  The big draw this year for tuners were those two cars and while they dominated the show there was something there for everyone.  And it wasn't just the cars either.  There is always a lot of stuff going on at TAS from motorsports news to fun activities for the whole family to experince.  Another little interesting thing that I saw is that Itasha cars were very present at this year's TAS and while some didn't like the inclusion of pretty anime girls plastered all over cars it's showing that the Japanese market is more accepting of the growing market of late.

What did I like about the show that I've seen so far?  Well to be honest something that really caught my eyes were the Tuned Black Kei Trucks from Kei Zone  I know one is a Honda and one is a Mitsubishi but the one I liked the most was one I couldn't ID.  I really wouldn't mind owning one of them because they would great to use for photography and video work as well as other junk. Plus no one else would have one.

Of course there is also the ladies. Yeah I liked them too.  TAS kicks SEMA's ass when it comes to the booth babes and a good number of people attend TAS JUST for the Booth Babes.  You can find former Race Queens, Gravure Idols and models dressed up and representing just about anything at TAS.
